I mentor new home inspectors after their schooling and before they can conduct home inspections on their own. One such trainee, who had only one inspection to complete before becoming an independent home inspector, had never seen a humidifier installed on a furnace before. He commented that it was "a really neat idea to have one of those on a heating system". To a professional inspector that is like saying to a mechanic you never noticed wheels on a car before. A humidifier is is a basic element of a forced air heating system. I wonder what other defects or systems this soon to be home inspector has never seen and cannot identify.
I am not saying that all other home inspectors are bad. I'm just saying before you choose an inspector to work with do your homework. Make sure you know who will be inspecting your purchase and make sure that person is well qualified. Don't make a decision based on price alone.
There is hardly anything in this world that someone cannot make or do a little cheaper. Those people who consider price alone are that persons lawful prey. ... John Ruskin
